Danville was founded in 1792 when Daniel Montgomery first settled along the banks of the North branch of Susquehanna River which was named for the native americans who resided here. From 1829-1850, Danville was one of the most prominent iron manufacturing centers in the country. In 1845, Danville's foundries produced the first T-rail---upon which America's westward expansion rode.
